Quick Tips to Finding Hidden Piping and Valves

Should you be a homeowner then knowing the details of your home like the back of your hand is something that is very important. Finding hidden water as well as gas piping valves is something that you need to look into and know where they are especially if you have to deal with things like emergencies. There are various ways that you can be able to do that and some of the ways that you can be able to ensure that you do that are briefly highlighted below.

If your home has natural gas then the shutoff valves will probably be located just before the gas meter outside the home. Such nubs are usually rectangular in shape and usually use a wrench and gas companies do not recommend touching them. A second valve is usually located further down the line or where the gas pipe first enters.

If you have a gas pipe then the valve will most likely be located in the utility room and will be made from flexible copper. When you have such a piping system you are usually sure that the gas system that you have usually has a high pressure. The shutoff valves of such systems are usually located near the water heater or the furnace.

For water meters, you are likely to get that you have two shutoff valves one before and the other after the meter. Should you be in an environment where it gets really cold then the shut off points is most likely to be located inside the home to prevent things like freezing. There is a high chance that if you live in milder climates, then the water shutoff valve will be located in an underground box with a lid or next to an exterior wall.

In case you are finding it hard to locate the water shut off valve then it is important for you to look at the property report that was given to you during the last phase of the property purchase. When you look at the report, you are sure that you will be able to find out where the valve is located. With the report, you are able to see the picture of the valves so that you are able to know how they look like so that you can shut them off.

With most automatic sprinklers located underground, there is a very high chance that they may be a little bit harder to find. For such valves using a metal detector may come in handy since they are usually metallic in nature. Even though such valves may not be located exactly where the plans says using the plans is something that will definitely help you to find out where you need to start.
